Qualifications for POA

I'm looking at maybe becoming POA over my parents. But I have a mental disorder and am disabled. Can I still be qualified for POA? I think if I'm able to do that, it might look like I am not too disabled as I am and my disability can be questioned and I will lose my SSDI. I am medically and mentally stable now, but that's because I'm on a good medication regime. But who's to tell when I might relapse and can't function again? That's my fear...I really want to be able to take care of my parents but I have to make sure I'm ok too.
