He is at peace!
With a mixture of relief and deep sadness I want to tell you my DH passed away at 4:45 a.m.His favorite aide was with him at the time it happened in Memory Care. I had just seen him between 5 and 6 pm and he ate his pureed dinner and later we played our usual match the animal cards and a wooden puzzle he liked. He did say Hi and used my name when I first saw him at dinner last night. He didn't always remember my name. Before I left ,we kissed each other goodbye.
Of course I feel numb that this journey is over with. He was diagnosed 7 1/2 yrs ago and 5 + yrs ago he had brain surgery due to brain bleeds after a fall. I am blessed that we had almost 40 yrs of a wonderful marriage ( Dec 10th ) I am indebted to those on this site who have been so helpful and say a daily prayer for those caretakers who are still on this journey. DH was 93 and 1/2 and was his usual sweet self throughout this horrible disease. Pray God they some day find a cure.

I am so sorry for you loss. In reading what you posted I couldn't help but think what a wonderful evening you'd spent together. He'd eaten, you'd played a game and he'd spoken to you. That is what you need to hang on to at the moment. Be kind to yourself and we are here for you.
