Looking for in home care

Hello
This is my first post. My dad passed away recently and I have become my moms primary care giver. I am looking for an individual to help me care for my mom in her home. I have been given many resources for agencies but was hoping to find an alternative. Any advice?

Hi and welcome. I am sorry for your reason to be here but happy you found this place.

It's hard to make suggestions without more information. Are you working and looking for care during the day? Are you looking for 24/7 coverage or just a few hours to provide respite?

There are alternatives to agencies, you could find someone word-of-mouth or through a site like care.com. Some states have programs to provide care hours-- often through Medicaid and typically quite limited. If mom is a qualifying vet or surviving spouse, she might qualify for some Aid & Attendance. Often caregivers who work, need time to take care of errands or just a break use a day program. Your Area Agency on Aging should be able to share what's local to you.

    Welcome!

We used a few different agencies and Care.com. I advertised at the university for nursing students etc… got some good candidates with that. We also used the adult day care in town a couple days a week, while it worked. Your respite is essential. I hope you find a workable solution.
