How can people with ALZ continue to contribute to society?

My husband had early-mid stage ALZ. His memory is shot but his intelligence remains. He would like to do volunteer work that is useful but would need an aide or guide. Does anyone know of volunteer opportunities that could engage people with memory loss?

Possibly your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore, or a food bank. My partner has volunteered at ReStore for years and has made some friends who I'm sure do a great deal to support her there. It's not a formal program, just a generous and understanding group of volunteers. I dread the day when she can no longer participate. You could try asking your ADRC about local options.

If you are near an Alzheimers research center, there may be studies he can volunteer for. We do quite a few of those - some are fun, others not fun at all, but they often pay well and we usually learn something useful at the same time. Definitely a way to contribute to society.
