support group for my mom

Hi everyone. New to the site as of today. I am taking care of my 85-year-old mother who has dementia. She forgets short term things, but is very aware of the fact that she’s losing her memory. She’s very angry about it and in denial. I’m reaching out today because she has asked many times If there’s anyone she can talk to who’s professional, and also not me ;-) about what she’s experiencing. Signing her up for therapy through her doctor, or insurance is not going to work for a number of logistical reasons. So, I’m looking to see if there’s a support here that might have people who just want to talk about what it’s like to live with dementia. I think this would help my mom a great deal.

Hi Camille, there is a forum for those living with dementia but her participation may depend on computer skills. Look up anosognosia, it's much more than denial, she may truly be unable to perceive her deficits, and the consensus here would be not to remind her or argue with her about it. You might check with your local Alzheimer's Association chapter about any local groups near you.

    Hi,

See if there's anything here that might help as well?
