Antipsychotics do they last ?

Seems like a miracle has happen , Mother is no longer fabulating, no longer angry, no longer outbusting, no longer hanging up the phone on us, no longer accusing us of ruining her life.

she says she decided to be happy , she sounds like she is on a high !!

why the sudden shift?

the doctor did increase her dosage of antipsychotic Risperidone , could that be the reason ?will it last ?

or is this just temporary ..

I don't know how long Risperidone will be effective, and I'm sure it can vary for different people - but I would say that this is great news for now, and to savor it for however long it may last.

It has continued to work long term for my husband. (he's on Seraquel) Good luck to you!

What Storycrafter said. Ditto. We have had to increase the dosage and schedule a few times through the years, but it works like a charm here. Quetiapine/Seroquel. Currently taking 300 mg daily for a long time now, is the only way I have been able to keep him at home. Alert, calm, not sedated. It has been gold for us.

It sounds like the risperidone at a higher dose is working as intended for her. That's not all that unusual, IME. Dad took Seroquel, which is from the same class. He started on a lower dose at bedtime to help with hallucinations, agitation and help him sleep. That was great for about 9 months, when his geripsych added a second AM dose.

It didn't sedate dad, but it did make strategies like those in the Teepa Snow videos more effective.

Risperidone worked long term for my dear mother; it had a tiny tweak in the beginning; but it kept things well for the long term until the end.
