Refusing to take medication

Hello,

My father has moderate dementia - related to him having several strokes that primarily impacted his frontal-temporal region.

He is now refusing to take his medications - he is on warfarin and other medications to manage his cardiovascular health. We are concerned about the increased stroke risk but can’t seem to do anything to get him to take his meds. He won’t go to the doctor. Gets very agitated and belligerent when we ask him to take his meds.

Would appreciate any suggestions on what we could try.

At our ropes end.

When my mom was having this issue ( during a misdiagnosed UTI), we tried both ways to get her to her meds:having her take the pills out of the pill tray herself, taking them out for her and piling them up on the table. Neither worked. We’d sit at the table for 40 minutes and get nowhere. It was as uf she thought we were trying to inappropriately drug her.

One day a long time friend of hers was there. She saw this exercise in frustration and said let me try. I out the pills in her hand She extended her hand in front of mom said it’s time to take your meds’. Mom immediately took them. It worked the same when a visiting nurse was there

Is there a neighbor etc that can come in and try that same maneuver with your Dad?
