Mamma and her diaper...

I am new here. My mom has brain damage from deprivation of oxygenated blood flow to the brain after her heart rhythm was too abnormal for too long. She also suffers multiple autoimmune diseases and has a strong family history of Alzheimer's disease.

Since she is completely bedridden at home and unable to go out to physicians we have a monthly visit from a nurse practioner in palliative care, but palliative care is not able to diagnose her.

This morning I got up to find that mom had opened up the tabs from her diaper and dug around in there soiling her fingers and finger nails with #2.

I had worked so hard the day before on her bath and did a therapeutic shampoo in bed with the blow up basin for her scalp condition. Due to her pain level and tenderness it is very time consuming and physical with great gentleness and patience required.

I really lost my patience with her diaper disaster and feel ashamed for lamenting begging her not to ever do that again. I keep an audio monitor near her and the receiver I can talk through to her with me. She knows I get up in the middle of the night and morning to change her, etc...

I am contemplating papertaping up her diaper over the top of the diaper tabs to hopefully make it too difficult for her to get into.

I guess we may never know exactly what is wrong with her brain. She started generic Lexapro with her last hospitalization since she became so desperate with anxiety from suffering that she asked for medication for that. She's never taken this type of med before but it seems to have calmed her and helped her to regain a bit of appetite.

Any suggestions?

look at buckandbuck.com for garments that close in the back that she won't be able to get into.
