Mother is not sleeping well

I’m just curious if this is kind of normal for dementia. She has been the last month or so not sleeping great. She had already not slept to well before but it’s getting worse. She does have sleep apnea and uses her machine, but last night she was getting confused with it and not using it like she usually does. She typically now will sleep one night and not the next. I’m going to reach out to her doctor but I’m just not sure what to do for all of this or if it’s a normal part of everything. Any input on this I would appreciate and be helpful thank you.

Hi there, there was another similar question on the parent forum today. Yes, sleep fragmentation is very much part of the disease and can respond well to medication. Seroquel has worked for my partner for over two years without having to increase the dose. Probably has to do with the parts of the brain that are affected.

My mother had vascular dementia and yes, sleep became a big deal. She was in AL and the nurse manager was able to call her primary and get a prescription for something. They started with melatonin and moved on to something stronger - I don't remember what it was, but it helped.
