I am ashamed to say that i forgot about your son's death until you mentioned it on another thread. Those first holidays without our loved one can really sting, and i am thinking of you and all of us who are in similar circumstances. QBC im glad your surgery is behind you and that you are doing well i hope?

Blessings to all of us this special season..... This forum has made my life immensely better and the sadness of caregiving more bearable.

@M1 please do not feel any shame for not having our son at the front of your thoughts. Thank you for reaching out. My surgery is behind me - 18 days today and I am doing well. I got cleared to walk on my own at home 8 days after the surgery. Had to practice with a cane and got cleared to graduate from the walker to the cane everywhere else 2 days later. I’m now cleared to just take the cane with me in case I need it. Nights are still a little rough sleeping on my back, and the knee gets really stiff then too.

We got through our immediate family ( me, spouse, older son, granddaughter) Christmas ok today- It was subdued and quiet. Our granddaughter was the focus. Spouse and I will go to his brother’s Christmas Day for extended family lunch and games. That will be another hard day as younger son loved that part of Christmas. I doubt older son will drive the 3 hours each way again so soon to come down for that. Today was the day that his ex-wife would let him travel with our grabddaughter for the day ( she already had her when she met our son, so she’s not legally his).
