Getting emotional at MC visit
I visited my mom (stage 7 AD) at MC today. She didn’t have a sweater on, which she usually does, and when I went to ask a staff member if they could get her a sweater I could barely get the words out—I burst into tears, just overwhelmed by it all. The staff thought I was crying about the sweater. They were very sweet but I felt sort of bad about disrupting them—they have enough on their plates w/o dealing with crying family members. It seems like most family members hold it together during visits (at least I’ve never seen anyone else crying!)—I am not always able to. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

While I never had the experience you describe, I have witnessed many tears in the parking lot and DON's office.

Pretty much every time, I cry on the drive home.
Please don’t ever feel ashamed of your tears. We are all doing the best we can.
I could make a long list of people who should be ashamed of themselves for how they treat (or ignore) MIL. It’s not worth my time. The list of people who have shed tears is waaaaay more important. And I bet the MC staff would agree.

Yup - my daughter is a 'parking lot' person. We visit my mom together because it is about a 2-hour drive and we are 'happy' when we see her. And then when we leave..... I guess I handle it a little better because we were never close, anyway, but it does still bother me. She's still mom, and she was a nurse, but now.... dang.
