Hi everyone, my
name is Patty, My
mom has Dementia/alzheimers. I still don’t understand the difference between both. My mom is 76 and she was diagnosed in her 60’s. I am the oldest of 3. My father is her full time caregiver. He is having a really hard time as he has lost his wife in essence. The good thing is I live 5 minutes away and I help him as much as possible but I cant do as much as he needs because I also have my husband and work 10 hour shifts. My sister lives with him and my brother. My brother helps to watch her when my dad needs a break but thats all. My sister is hands off and doesn’t help. So I feel like a lot of it falls on me. I stress out a lot and worry because my dad is very depressed and has done counseling but he is just devastated by all of this. My dad is 78 and isn’t getting any younger. Its such a horrible disease. My mom cant say full sentences, she needs help with everything, wears diapers, and as of recently is not sleeping well at night. Her doctor says she has severe dementia. It is such s lonely journey and its sad because I feel like I gave been mourning my
mother now for over 10 years. My dad is scared to put her in a home because of neglect and abuse. Just needed to vent. Thank you for listening

Welcome to the forum Patty. Have you thought about asking for a hospice evaluation? You don't need a doctor's order to request an evaluation, and they may be able to provide significant help to your family.
