mom may be 2 hours away

My sister found an assisted living for mom close to her, but it's about 2 hours for me. I don't like that she may be so far. I've lived near mom since I've been married & had kids. And now my kids are grown. It's kind of breaking my heart thinking mom may be far from me. Am I overreacting?

If it's the best place for her to be Irene, you probably have to figure some way to let it be okay. Does your sister hold her POA?

Sounds like an understandable grief reaction. Perhaps it would help to frame it in terms of her best interests instead of your own. Would it make a difference to HER--not to you--for her to be close to you? Do you have a support system that can help you process your grief? An in-person support group, or a therapist?

You're right, let it be. I hold POA. Mom made me POA years ago. We always thought I would care for her. But now, she doesn't know me. She knows my sister. My sister has taken her to the facility for bingo & other activities. Mom seems to like it. So like you said, maybe it is best. And I do feel I'm grieving. I have support, yes.

I understand your sadness. It's natural to want to hold on.
