Carrying her photography around

In Better Days, DW was an accomplished photographer. One of the best photos my wife took many years ago was of the Arlington Memorial Bridge across the Potomac. It connects two very different places: Washington, with its Lincoln Memorial, and Virginia, with Robert E. Lee’s Arlington House.

I now consider that photo as a metaphor of the connection between two other places: the “real” world I live in, and the very different dementia world my wife lives in. Seeking to honor that connection, I spent about a year finding just the right artist and I now carry that picture with me 24/7-----tattooed on my forearm, as shown attached.

The first time DW saw it ---my first ink, by the way—she reached out and touched it with her fingertip. Then she slowly turned to me, and smiled. These days, every smile I get from her is a treasure.

I have seen some of her work in the calendar. And she certainly had a good eye. I'm glad you had the tattoo made because it seems as though it really meant something to her. You are a hero in more ways than one. She is so lucky to have you.

    jfkoc--

I wouldn't say the three hours with the artist were painful, but they did leave a lasting impression on me!
