I wonder if finger food would slow her down a little? Bite-sized pieces, and utensils not an option? Sounds like she's probably lost her true appetite cues. You probably really have to exert portion control here, as weight gain could result.

Hi memeof5 - welcome to 'here', but sorry for the reason.
The lost appetite cues M1 has mentioned is not unusual. We had to lock up the pantry or MIL would just continue to eat. We put out enough nourishment for the day so she can grab that when she wants to (a few slices of bread, carrot sticks, etc...), up to dinner-time, plus some zero-sugar cookies to snack on. She isn't left alone, but she at least likes being able to have that option for herself. She totally forgets she just ate.

We tried the smallest bowl spoon we could find. It helped a little, as well as constant reminders to take a break between bites, which unfortunately could cause anger.
