Leaving home

I have Alzheimers and dread when it gets to the stage I have to go to "a home" and when my wife visits me will I know who she is?

My DH does not know anyone's name, and he does not always know his home is home, but it does not seem as important to him now. He has smiles for people he cares about and hugs for me, which make me feel better. Your heart will always know her.

Thank you that makes me feel better to know that I am not alone.

David, it is not a given that you will have to leave your home. Some PWDs remain at home throughout their dementia journey.

Thank you. I know that I maybe able to stay at home(I am on the waiting list for the local Veterans Home)but my wife and I are trying to be proactive as she is 4 years older than I am (I am 78) and may not be able to take care of me as my disease progresses.

Some couples may live in an assisted living facility together. It's wise to be pro-active.

I am being pro-active by seeing a specialist in the next week or two ( my DR thinks I might have Parkinson's) to see if I also have Parkinson's. I will let you know the results.
