David, if I were you, I would flood myself with calming images. You seem to be fearful of abandonment. See if calming images and reassurances make a difference. The other treatment is medication. I know you tried one medication, there are others. You would have to consult a geriatric psychiatrist.

Also, try RELAXATION techniques until you find one or two that work for you. You have a serious illness and you deserve treatment.

I don't know if this would work for your type of dementia. Since your DW is right there with you, you both might investigate lucid dreaming, and see if any of those techniques might apply to you to give you some relief.

Thank you Iris for you concern. I have a medication that is supposed to help my nightmares slow down (i know that it will not stop them) . When I see the doctor in about 1 month I will talk to him about the pill and see if I can increase the dosage if not maybe he can give me something else. I have given up most of my shows and try to stay with comedies. I am taking 2 exercise groups (they both know that I have dementia) and it gives me some social interaction which helps me not to dwell on my situation. But the best thing in my life is MY WIFE I truly believe that I would not be alive today(she is the one who suggested to the doctor that I be tested for dementia ) if was not for her. The last time I had a nightmare I was so panicked I said to her Please do not leave me she said she would never leave me because she loves me too much she knows how to calm me down.
