My DW has been in MC now for several days. She's happy, she's kind to everyone, almost as if she can just be herself now. Her sister went to visit her yesterday and she was jovial, they danced. Maybe she somehow knows that everyone there is like her so she feels normal, she feels safe both physically and mentally. She's in her world now, with her people.

I'm just grateful is all I can say.

That is great news! It would be great if all our LO could adjust so well.

My mom also did adjust well and is content where she is. MIL - will probably not...

and I like to see good news once in a while! thanks for posting.

I'm so glad to hear this @ghphotog . I had a similar experience with my sister. At first she was kicking and screaming, not wanting to go, but once she saw that memory care wasn't the hellscape she envisioned it to be, she calmed down. Not long after that she told me she should have moved there sooner (or words to that effect). And then, after that, she commented that she liked memory care and that she'd lived there for years! She'd been there less than a year at that point. 🙂

I think for some people they're so stressed out trying to live in a place that's too complicated for them (Peggy would get lost inside the house), that memory care can be a relief. Like you said, they can be themselves in a manageable environment.

This is the same thing our emeritus member alz+ said, that PWDs need a manageable environment.

My heart feels lighter after you sharing this. I am so happy to hear that she seems to be content in her new location, freeing you to be her spouse again.
