No One Is Prepared for Alzheimer's

"No One Is Prepared for Alzheimer’s"

I just published an Amazon book (kindle ebook and paperback) which is my journal written over 5-6 years about caring for my husband through the full course of his Alzheimer’s journey. It is entitled: “No One Is Prepared for Alzheimer’s: One Family’s Story.” George died last May, oddly enough on the date of our anniversary. My book explores the unrelenting feelings of loss, despair, concern and yes, panic about medical & financial support. The goal was telling the full story.....no more secrets, no more sugar coating the challenges. It is both a love story and an intimate account of the destruction of one man: a lovely, gentle, sweet man, a good man who was always kind. And it tells of the family (a mother and son) who were wrenched beyond reason in their effort to care for him. This is the book that tells the truth. And all caregivers need to know that all their efforts and the roller of emotions which takes a terrible toll on them are real. And they are not alone. Much love friends

Thank you for for giving the book/journal a go. I hope you find it worthwhile. And I am very much interested in your comments or questions. Part of this story has already been produced in a theater play here in Hawaii. Now, we are thinking of doing a play with the entire story ........sometime in this year.

All: So many of the comments I read about Alzheimer’s caregivers are most basically about the roller coaster of emotions that you experience a good deal of the time. Yes, there are the practical issues. But the toughest thing is finding that sweet spot where you can allow yourself to experience frustration, rage, hurt, even despair, but then come back, yes, come back to a modicum of peace. The journal I kept over a number years (2016-2023) during my caregiving of my lovely husband, George, has been published now in Amazon Prime. It is the full story, right to the end of his life. And so much of it is about finding the courage and wisdom to manage this roller coaster of emotions. WE ALL experience them and they can drain you of energy and cause your deep despair. BUT we can get through it. I hope you will want to read this journal, because it really tells the truth about Alzheimer’s caregiving. It is on Amazon Prime books and entitled “No One Is Prepared for Alzheimer’s: One Family’s Story.

I have all of you current caregivers in my heart every day.
