Mom aggressive and won’t take meds

I am dealing with an acute situation with my mom, 90 years old, who is 3 hours away. She has been having symptoms of dementia for several years but she has been otherwise healthy and able to function. My parents have a home next to mine but she has refused to leave her doctors.

This week she was admitted to ER for very high BP then sent home once it stabilized. Since then she has refused to leave the bed except when my dad was able to get her up to eat breakfast. My niece and her 3yr old daughter live in the house with them and she called me today about the situation.

She just called again at 3 am because mom woke up and was hitting my dad. She refuses to take any of her medication and says she wants to die but won’t go back to bed either. When dad is out of the room she goes looking for him but when he is there she starts yelling and attacking him again. She is convinced that he brought a woman into the house and is cheating on her.

I told my niece to take care of my great niece first and leave the house if needed. She doesn’t want to call 911 bc she is afraid they will be too rough with her. She can call her Dr in the morning, I really just don’t know what to do at this point. This obviously cannot continue, Any advice would be helpful.

She should be transported to an ER+ then ideally to a geri psych ward to be assessed + medicated to calm her. That may take some days or even weeks. At her age, I think I would also have an assessment done by Hospice, especially if her behaviors escalate.

As old as she is, with the delusions she is having, she could still be a danger to your other relatives that are in the house with her. Dont wait for a calamity before she is hospitalized.
