Jury duty

Oh my goodness!!! My name is Patty I have heart disease, very close to needing a heart transplant. My Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2019 and I am struggling with unbelievable issues. I was denied disability because I'll bite my lip and this has depleted my mom's bank account to the point we now have a negative balance. So much that after my mom gets her $2000 social security check only $400 is left for bills and food. I get $20 in food stamps, so helpful, biting lip. I've been trying to write a complaint letter since last year because my Mom doesn't have any doctor's right now, incompetence, biting lip. Her last primary care physician and neurologist both lied in office visit summaries, a criminal offense punishable with jail time. If you have to be reminded that it's against the law to lie in your patients chart you shouldn't be practicing medicine. Because of this incompetence I haven't been able to establish power of attorney. However I addressed this when she was diagnosed and I am her only child.

So today in the mail she received a summons for jury duty. 🙃 Any suggestions on how to handle this?!

If anything thanks for letting me get this out which helps me vent!!

Patty

Welcome to the forum. There's a lot in your post that could take a lot more explaining. However, regarding jury duty, there should be a number in the letter that you can call to get her excused. You may have to provide written documentation of her diagnosis, but it shouldn't be difficult. There was another pretty recent discussion about this.

I was going to state the same thing - call the number and tell them she has dementia. My DH was dismissed immediately. When I received a notice I called and said I was a caregiver, they ask to see DH's diagnosis paperwork. I emailed his last neurologist appt receipt and they were satisfied with that. They've 'dismissed' both of us now.
