Sister Cares

Hello, I am just starting this discussion but my older sister has had dementia for about 2 years. Her family did not let me know until she called me one day and I knew something was wrong with her. That was about a year ago. It seems her dementia as moved very quickly. At times she no longer remembers her husband or home. I live in another state and have health issues so can not go see her. What do I say when she calls and asks to come home? I need some understanding of what this is doing to her. Thank you for any advice you can give me.

    Hi and welcome.

In your shoes I would reach out to her primary caregiver for guidance-- they likely have a sense of how to best answer her requests to come home. Normally, I would advise something vague but hopeful-- once the weather improves or when my new car comes in-- and leave it at that. Family may have already created a fiblet for this question so it's best to ask first.
