Therapist for caregiver?

I am new to these discussions, and I’m seeking advice. Although my mom is in a senior living community, I am the primary caregiver. I am looking for a therapist to help me work through all things involving being the caregiver. How do I go about looking for someone who specializes in understanding Alzheimer’s? To say that I’m feeling overwhelmed, is a gross understatement!

Hi mandyrbryan - welcome to 'here', but sorry for the reason.

Yes, the caregiving can be overwhelming!

I'm sorry, I don't know how to find one who would specialist with that, but I would say to find one that you are comfortable with first. You can also call the alz hotline at any time and ask for caregiver assistance.

There are a lot of tips and advice and commiseration here, as well.

Hi mandyrbryan, I'm in the process of looking for a therapist too. I spoke to one person who I knew right away was not "getting" me so I'm looking again. I'm not sure if this applies to your situation, but if your employer offers an Employee Assistance Plan with a few visits to a therapist, that could be a place to start.
