Finding a Neuro psych for mom

I live in Staten Island, NY and it has been a struggle to find a Neuro psych out here. Mom is on a 12month wait list . Until then I watch her forget so much about her life, it's so heartbreaking.

Welcome to the forum. The testing won't do a whole lot to change what is happening. My partner never had it, and many others here have also foregone it for various reasons. While waiting, you might as well get on with planning how to take care of her-get your legal and financial plans in order, primarily. If you read a lot of threads here you will pick up a lot of practical tips, and you will realize that you are not alone in facing this sadness.

All my step-dad’s neuropsych did was test him for 2 hours. We went back a few weeks later and he gave us the results of the test, and some general recommendations. Recommendations that you can pick up here or on books like the 36 hour day. He suggested a neurologist for medications etc. Dad refused to go to the neurologist.

Mom never saw neuropsych.. Her doctor referred her to a neurology clinic. The NP there gives her her memory medication, etc. and the PCP referred her to a psychiatric clinic for anxiety and depression.

Ask the PCP for referrals to a neurologist and a geriatric psychiatrist. Maybe you can get in to those sooner.
