Hospice for my mother
I made the decision to call hospice, a nurse came out the next day (Thurs 3/14) and all the papers have been signed. The assigned nurse called last night and she will be here Monday (3/18). A wheelchair was delivered yesterday, just the transport style. This is not going over well, my mother is not accepting this in place of her dining chair. I am using when it she gets up from her rocking chair to go to the dining table for meals. Also after she has gotten dressed in the morning so she can get to the dining table. She states she feels weak or wobbly or she may say I can't feel my legs. I should have known, like in the case of changing the dining chair to an armed chair & the difficult transition that was, that this transition was going to be similar. I do need to find a chair pad to raise her up enough so that her elbows clear the arms of the chair.
I am writing down everything I can think of that I want to discuss with the nurse. My mind is swirling.

Thank you all for your comments. ☺️
It has been a challenging weekend introducing the wheelchair. I really like it as it is a transport style. Mom hates it!!!! Dementia anger reared its ugly head. Thank goodness my brother came to dinner tonight and stayed after dinner for me. I left the house for about 2 hours, picked up my daughter, got a chocolate shake & drove around looking at houses in the country.
Really looking forward to meeting the nurse tomorrow.

A caregiver of ours brought us a sort of old chair cushion to use with our hospice provided transport wheel chair. It was a perfect fit and helped with her comfort and set her higher up which helped me assist with transfers. She didn’t have to use as much leg strength to get to a standing position, therefore less stress on my back. The transport chair is great for getting through doorways in the house, right? It also could be maneuvered directly in front of the toilet (pretty small bathrooms) when toileting in the cammode was still a thing. It wasn’t so comfortable to sit for a longer period but the footrests helped some. She was only in it to transport from room to room. We purchased a very nice wheelchair for walks and outings before she became bed bound.
So glad hospice is on board. They were such a blessing for us.
