Monthly illness

My sister gets sick on a monthly basis. She has nausea, chills, and sometimes vomiting. Once a month, almost like clockwork. She is 74, was checked by her doctor, and it’s not a UTI. She is diabetic, but nothing has changed in her diet. After each episode, she appears to be worse mentally. It’s like a switch that triggers a new phase of decline. We are stumped! I can’t find anything in my research that addresses anything like this, but it has happened for 10 months or more now.

has anyone else experienced this? Thanks so much!

Rose

I’m sorry, I do not have experience with this… sounds horrendous on top of everything else.

I just want to say that this particular group, Caring Long Distance, doesn’t get as much traffic as some others. I’m A Caregiver ( general) and Caring for a Parent may get you quicker responses going forward.

My goodness, that sounds awful. The only thing I could think of, and I'm not a medical person, would be some sort of hormonal trigger. Even though she's 74, hormones, or rather a hormone imbalance could possibly be in play here. It might worth asking about.

I wish I had a better answer for you. Please do let us know what you find out.

My hubby had exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. His pancreas didn't put out enough digestive enzymes to digest his food properly. He had it most of his adult life, but it went undiagnosed until he had Alzheimer's for four years. His worst symptoms were severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. Have you brought her to a GI specialist? There are rare conditions like cyclic vomiting syndrome or abdominal epilepsy that can cause similar symptoms.
