I am two people to my mom/MC or AL
I am new here-My mom was diagnosed with mixed dementia. She knows all of her kids names but for some reason she gets me confused and sees me as another child. She will talk to me about me, not realizing it is me. I have tried to play along and tried to delicately share I am the same person but she just not understand or agree. I am her POA and she will tell my aunt who helps me that I am a child and can not make medical decisions for her but I will go to her doctor's appointments and she will have me explain things to the doctors. She will even ask why I am with my husband when my other "sister" is married to him and live in the same house. She fears I am hurt or in a bad situation when she talks to me about me. I just am not sure how to handle the situation to best help my mom through this time.
On another side, how did each of you know when it was time to place your loved on in either a MC unit or AL? My mom has been in a SNF for several weeks due to falls related to sever cervical stenosis, requiring surgery or risk falling and being paralyzed in the next 2 years. PT has helped her a great bit but her fall risk is still there. I am going to have to send her home in a few weeks because her funds run out. I am working on home care through Medicaid but not sure how much help that will give her. I do not have space in my home and honestly I do not feel I could have my mom live with me as bad as that sounds because it is exhausting and I have my husband and children still at home that are active and I work fulltime. I appreciate any and all suggestions and information.

Hi, i just responded on the other thread, and you answered my questions here regarding poa and Medicaid. Sounds like placement straight from rehab would be the optimal way to go. If you're thinking about it, it's time. Depends on your state what Medicaid will cover, but in many states they will only cover a nursing home, not assisted living or memory care. Maybe there's a social worker at the rehab who could help you?
