TV show that did a good job portraying challenges of Alzheimer's Disease

Several years ago, I read on this forum that the television show, This is Us, did a good job portraying the challenges of Alzheimer's Disease. I recently got around to watching the series and I agree, the show did a very good job.

Spoiler alert: In Season 5 and 6 one of the characters has Alzheimer's Disease. The show portrays classic examples of real life situations that I encountered with DH when he was alive and that I am now encountering with my Dear Mom (PWD) as she and my Dear Dad (primary caregiver) walk this journey. For example:

  • the difficulty of figuring out when there might be a problem and getting a diagnosis,
  • the stress on the caregiver,
  • the frustration of the person with the dementia related illness,
  • when the person with dementia misidentifies or misremembers family, friends, memories and objects,
  • dynamics between the grown children and the caregiving spouse,
  • dynamics among the grown children about the responsibilities, demands and challenges of caring for a parent.

I am glad I watched the series. And I am grateful that the show took on a difficult topic that impacts so many people.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a caregiving daughter. I don't have a financial interest in the show or its related entities.

I haven’t watched this series. We’ve been binge watching The Resident. One of the episodes concerned an elderly couple where the male was chronically ill, irritable, needy and wanted only his wife to care for him. The episode realistically showed the mental, emotional and physical stress that the caregiver had as a result. The solution was overly simplistic and not realistic, but it’s only an hour episode ….
