Third generation in my family

Hello, my name is Tracy.
I’m 66, and represent at least the third generation of Alzheimer’s in my mother’s family. Prior to my recent diagnosis, my maternal grandfather, my mother, and one of her sisters had Alzheimer’s. My husband and I started noticing my memory difficulties at least a year ago. Newer symptoms include impaired judgment, frequently disrupted sleep, balance problems, and emotional outbursts. I rarely drive anymore. My primary care MD didn’t think it was necessary to refer me to a neurologist, and at this point I have no interest in participating in a clinical trial.
I have a hx of lymphoma (I was 36), and most recently sick sinus syndrome (a cardiac condition that landed me in the hospital after six consecutive cardiac arrests one day). A pacemaker has managed that problem, but frankly, I don’t really care to participate in a clinical trial for an Alzheimer’s med. I’m on multiple meds, and would just like to live out whatever time I have left with whatever amount of dignity is possible. I’d also like to connect with other Alzheimer’s patients, as this is quite a challenging diagnosis.
Warmly,
Tracy F.

Welcome to our online support group, Tracy. There have been a few new members with complicated cardiac histories. I have s diagnosis of cognitive impairment not otherwise specified, and I am on two medications for memory. It's good that you are thinking about how you want to spend your later years. I hope you and the other members will converse with each other. Following Best Practices may help prolong the early stages. How do you like to spend your time?
