Time to Say Goodbye
DW turned the corner this morning. She has been in memory care since last August and has been in hospice care since January. She qualified for hospice since she has both advanced (stage 6) EOAD and cervical cancer (stage unknown). When checked by the hospice nurse this morning DW was virtually unresponsive but her vitals were okay. She has stopped eating and is barely able to swallow liquid meds. I was present when the hospice RN saw her again late this afternoon. The RN told me that DW had worsened even since this morning and confirmed that DW was actively dying. Although this is quite a rapid change, I am grateful that she will soon be face to face with her Savior Jesus Christ and her struggle with EOAD and cancer will be no more. I will miss her keenly when she is no longer here on earth. Even so, I know that, because each of us have asked Jesus Christ to forgive our sins and asked Him to be our Savior and Lord, we will see one another again.

You have a Hope! Allow yourself to grieve, to rest, to take it slowly. Like you, I’m so sorry it has had to come to this, but at the same time it’s a blessing for her. Praying for you!

Thank you all for your compassion and prayers. Several family members are flying in to spend time with DW before she departs this world. DW is blessed to be supported by loving family and friends…as am I. Tomorrow I have laparoscopic surgery to biopsy a cancerous lymph node as part of my ongoing battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I will be at home recovering later the same day. I am glad family will be with both DW and me. So much at one time.

Yesterday I had laparoscopic surgery to biopsy a cancerous lymph node. I am home recovering and am glad to have my adult son with me for a few days. The results of the surgery are a bit of a disappointment. The tissue collected during the surgery did not include the lymph node they were trying to collect for the biopsy. I am curious to hear what my doctor plans next. In the mean time, DW continues on her path to heaven. God only knows when she will breathe her last. She is well cared for and apparently as comfortable as possible. Thank you all for your prayers and kind words.

Thinking of you Tom. So frustrating that the surgery didn't accomplish what was needed.

Thanks, M1. There are many frustrations in this life, some unique to those with dementia and their caregivers. But I am resting in my God where I find peace and love.
