So Many Emotions

It's finally happening. I'm leaving my mom tomorrow after brunch. I'm driving 1000 miles back to my home. I'll have been gone a measly 6 weeks but it seems like a year. I can't wait to get back to my life.

I'm terrified, so so sad, and feeling very remorseful. I'm also looking forward to a break from the responsibilities.

So far she's "happier" being back here in SC than she ever was in WI. So we've done right by her in that regard. Now let's hope my brother comes through on his promise to visit at least once a week. 🤞

You have definitely done right by her. No guilt! Sadness yes, because she has this awful disease that requires the care you have set up. Go home and rest. It's your brother's turn.

she’s in a safe place. There will be weeks your brother will be there more than once a week, and yes, there will be weeks that he skips . Hopefully he calls a couple times a week- and of course you can call too. Be prepared to hear the same litany of complaints about her new home that she had about the place up by you. Please ignore it. You can’t make her happy because her brain doesn’t work.

    Strong work on your part.

Go home without guilt, you've selflessly given her what is best of her very limited options.

I’m glad, after so many uphill battles, that you can go home with some relief you’ve done right by your mom. She and your brother are so fortunate to have you advocating for her/them. I hope you can get some rest for yourself and continue forward in your life, you’ve done so much. Keep in touch.
