Hi Everyone…. Aside from Seroquel is there any other medicine for dementia patients that helps them sleep through the night?

Thanks = )

    At one point, the medication I saw mentioned most often for sleep in dementia patients was trazodone (generic for an older anti-depressant). Melatonin is also mentioned often for getting a person to fall asleep. We did use a combination of melatonin and another longer lasting medication, I have seen various combinations used on the forums.

    trazodone is frequently prescribed but..lots of side effects. Dry mouth, constipation made it impossible for my partner to tolerate. I tried it briefly after a surgery and hated the way I felt on it. My partner did much much better on Seroquel.

    My mom was prescribed Seroquel up to twice a day for agitation and restlessness and also prescribed Ativan for sleep. Whole thing sounds backwards but she’s been sleeping thru the night. She was taking Ambien and dr said not to, that it’s working against other meds and, so far, one Ativan has worked

    Mirtazapine( generic form of Remeron) is both an antidepressant and a sleep aid. It can cause patients to gain weight. My mom was switched to it when trazadone didn’t work. She’s only gained a few pounds and has been taking it a couple years.
