Got a few days off - almost - Credit Fraud attempts

Well with the support of the folks at my LO's MC and my wonderful son, I got to go away for a couple of days. Everyone promised to be extra vigilant and it just about worked. But … I got a call from a bank verifying that we were opening a charge account or taking out a loan.

So I was able to shut that down and was on pins and needles until I got home and could check every thing, change every password, download credit reports and see what was going on and put credit freezes on. Now I need to go through all the credit reports and make sure there is nothing going on.

If anyone has been through this, do I need to contact the banks and organizations that made inquiries or is the fact that no accounts were opened and there are now credit freezes good enough? There were a frightening number of soft and hard inquiries.

Just when I thought we had things in organized enough that only medical issues were what we were going to have to deal with.

Do you know for a fact that the inquiries were on his identity and not yours? I had this happen when i traveled in 2019, and I think the trigger was a to go food order placed from our hotel. So I just wonder if it could have been your travel perhaps? May have nothing to do with him?

I think the freeze should be good enough, and you can report it to the bank and the credit agencies. If there are any issues they will pop up. I have my mom’s bank account set up so if there’s any change, I will definitely know about it. I am so sorry you are going through this though - it’s a drag to come back to more worry. That’s how this goes sometimes. It’s good you caught it. Now I hope you can get some rest. Glad you got a break.
