New behavior with Visitors

Mom is in an ALF and is heading soon to a MC as advised by case worker/administrator because she is steadily declining.

She is getting increasingly non/compliant and not eating/drinking water. Doesn’t want to leave her recliner or her room. She has visitors and phone calls every day and all of them are reporting back to me that she is crying every day. This is a new behavior. She sometimes gets angry with me…but most times very happy to see me. I only saw her cry once when I pushed her to engage in a social activity at AL. I usually visit 3-4x a week so I’m actively involved with her well being. Why are others seeing this behavior and not me? I’m going over today with my brother to see if she responds to him differently.

Could this be UTI? Or just a new “broken” record player? Is it depression or dementia symptoms?

could be either one. Maybe worth checking for a UTI, but that won't and shouldn't deter the move to memory care. The level of support and staff will be better to meet her needs. Apathy is a big part of the disease, and if she doesn't want to participate in activities, I wouldn't push her to do so. I know how hard this is. My partner participates in no group activities and it's been hard to deal with. Even group meals are diffiucult for her.
