Moms doctor has suggested genome testing to see what medication she will respond best to for her anger and anxiety. It’s just a mouth swab and she said it would be covered by insurance, so we are going to give it a try. Have any of you had this done for your LO? Was it helpful?

it is very unproven testing, not shown to be useful. I personally wouldn’t do it.

I have a different disease, but the same approach was used to see if a certain medication was effective. Based on the test results (the company was Prometheus) it was determined it was unlikely to benefit me and was discontinued.

At least in other psychiatric diagnoses, Genesight and Genomind, for instance, aren’t generally recommended by the experts who have studied the data we have on them. I don’t know the specifics for geriatrics and dementia but it’s probably similar. There are patients who say it’s been helpful after failing several medications.

I know a few parents who have used Genesight for their children with Autism+; most thought it was worthwhile but many of them also believe in a lot of things that aren't backed up by rigorous studies.
