My mom was on one for about 3 years. I could not determine whether it was helpful or not. When I finally stopped it along with all her other
meds, I did not see any difference either

My DH has been on Rivastigmine for a little less than a year. I can't really tell if it's helping or not.

My mom was on it for several months until her Medicare Part D quit paying for it. We switched her to Donepezil tablets. I don’t know that either helped/helps. The patches often came off in her clothing and she would not realize it.

My husband has been on it for two years. We put medical tape over it to keep it from falling off. I wasn't sure if it was helping until my husband complained about wearing it and I stopped using it for five days. He had a horrible week. He couldn't focus on anything I said and had trouble following simple instructions that previously were OK for him. We went back to the patch.
That's not to say this is a miracle med. It just seems to help with concentration.

just found this on the Alzheimer’s UK site:
Medications for memory and thinking help some people more than others. In clinical trials involving people with Alzheimer’s disease who have taken a cholinesterase inhibitor for six months:
- about one out of ten people will show a clear improvement in their memory and thinking
- about one out of ten people will experience unpleasant side effects
- around eight out of ten people will feel no noticeable difference.
A person in the early or middle stages of dementia caused by Alzheimer’s disease may find that taking donepezil or rivastigmine helps with their:
- mental abilities, such as memory, concentration and thinking
- ability to continue doing daily activities (such as managing money, shopping or cooking)
- mood
- motivation.
