My husband will say he’s getting like his mother (who had dementia), and talk about how confused and forgetful he is. But the word dementia is never said.

Around the time dad's anosognosia became more of a thing, he would often tell us that "his memories all came back to me while I was sleeping last night".

My mom openly admits to having dementia, but since her memory is not so bad she thinks she is very early on. I think she probably sees it more as mild cognitive impairment. She has vascular dementia and symptoms are more lack of decision making, reasoning, anger, personality changes, lack of empathy and anosognosia.

Mom freely admits she can’t remember anything, but she doesn’t recognize that means she has dementia. So I just redirect and go on.

It hurts my heart to think of your wife wishing and hoping she was better, knowing the truth that this disease only goes one direction.
