Hi, it's been suggested I order a "bed cane"/support handle for my father (he has pretty advanced dementia and lives in assisted living. Those I see online look good, and I know there are medical supply companies with these as well. Has anyone used one of these, and is there a best, most secure brand (that doesn't slip out from between the mattress/foundation? Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Bluecard,

If your dad’s facility has OT/PT on site you may want to ask them. Sometimes they have extra available. My mom’s has velcro straps that extend from the part of the device that’s under the mattress to fasten around the bedrail/frame opposite the handle. I think that helps keep it secure. PT placed my mom’s pretty high up in the bed, almost at head level, but it seems like she’ll use it when she needs it. Amazon tends to have a fairly wide selection when compared to specialty stores.

Thanks. Yes, that is what I think is typical. . . thanks. We had removed the bedrail frame from the bed as it was suggested that it made it too high, so now there's nothing to attach it too. Always something. Maybe we can find a lower frame/rail.
