Alz & Down Syndrome

My son was diagnosed with Alz in March of this year. He is non-verbal and incontinent. He lives in a facility with round the clock care but I'm concerned that because he is now down to 1 word, yes that he may be misunderstood. I get him bi-weekly & bring him home but he doesn't do much anymore and has no interest in the things he used to. I'm having a very hard time emotionally and also understanding how to deal with this "new diagnosis." Anybody who has suggestions on how to communicate with him, please comment & thanks in advance for your comments.
