So after my mom was put on notice for incontinence, I was in a panic. I visited a LOT of memory care facilities. So many were not places I could see her in at all, for one reason or another. I was extremely depressed. Most said they were confident they could deal with her incontinence issues, but other things just didn’t feel right. I feel I cannot move her again after this, so have been aching with stress.

Today, I toured place I was certain she’ll be ok in. It checks all the right boxes - skilled staff, clear experience with dementia, and a memory care that’s as large if not larger than the assisted living part. It’s a bit farther from my home but that’s minuscule compared to the upsides. It’s the only place I found that has a great reputation for memory care specifically.

The only challenge is they have a waitlist for single rooms. They have one shared suite available and I grabbed it. My mom knows about the move (although she thought we were in Ecuador last week, so I’m not sure how much she really knows). As she has progressed, one of the saddest things is she just wants to make me happy.

Monday the new place will come to my mom’s current facility and do an assessment, and if that goes well we will plan the move. They are holding the room for her. They know all about her incontinence. They go up to very high levels of care, much higher than where she will be, and have a lot of experience with hospice coordination. They know dementia. I loved the memory care staff and residents.

Please send positive energy that the assessment goes well! I have very high hopes but anything can happen.

Duly sent. Hope it goes well. Seems that the important thing will be to get her there and then you can get a single room later on. 🤞

Sending best wishes for the move. Hopefully she will be near the top of the wait list for a single room since she will then already be a resident. DH was recently transferred from one room to another (they consolidated their high needs residents in one wing), and it went off without a hitch.

I hope it all comes together nicely. The shared room might not be so bad. And hopefully it helps with the cost.

Thank you all so much! I will be sure to update on Monday. I am hopeful about the place, especially since they offer such higher levels of care. Her current place has 25 spots and 10 vacancies right now, and the environment is actually a little sad. She craves interaction.

I think she’ll be ok with the share (which is actually a shared suite with separate bedrooms) especially since she’s first on the list for a single.

Hopefully I can rest a bit today.
