Does anyone know about Medicaid in Ohio

My dh had Medicare and insurance. We have only been married 5 years. I had the house before we were married. Will they use this as his income?

Yes I know I should speak to eldercare lawyer but they are so expensive.

Most states do not count the residence in the asset total nor do they count the "well" spouse's income. I've included a link below to the American Council on Aging website where you can find state-specific information. Spend down is tricky and varies by state. For example, I was able to retain assets by using a Medicaid compliant annuity that converted assets to income. I know a CELA can be expensive, but to me it was worth every penny. Maybe talk to your local council on aging to see if there's someone in the state legal aid office they can reccomend. Or they may even have someone on staff who can help.

I'm glad you did ronda. I think it will be worth the expense to get the right advice.

I'm really glad you did. I'm reasonably smart and have handled contracts and budgets throughout my career, but I never would have been able to manage the Medicaid application on my own. It's very tricky business.

Many elder care lawyers here offer a free consultation. That might be an option for you. The set up of whatever they recommend may sound expensive, but in the long run will usually preserve assets.
