Hi everyone. Dad has been diagnosed with Parkinson. He's currently in the hospital awaiting placement in a nursing facility. He's blaming me for not taking him home. I know it's his disease but I'm have a hard time dealing with everything. Any others with this problem?

Welcome to the forum, you have come to a good place for advice and support. It's so tough to be the target of his frustration, but we caregivers have to grow thick skin. Safety has to drive the decision making, and you have to remember you did not do this to him, the disease is doing it to him. All you can do is let the doctors take the fall, this is their recommendation, this is what they are ordering. Yeah it's rotten, but we'll get through it.

Hope that helps. He's lucky to have you looking out for him.

Unfortunately the person that keeps them safe, which usually means taking freedoms away is the one that takes all the blame. I put mom in AL and pay her bills and she is resentful and angry about everything. She even gets mad if she sees me in the office at AL paying her bill or discussing medication. You are most definitely not alone. He probably doesn’t see the extent of his limitations. This is anosognosia and is very common. In his mind he probably thinks he is perfectly fine to live at home and take care of himself and you are the one being unreasonable. It is just so hard.

Thanks to all! Looks like he will be admitted tomorrow or Friday. It's going to a tough couple of days. Last night I finally was able to give it all to God. I pray for his care and if he can smile once a day I'll be happy! One long day at a time!
