That was a fascinating piece; thanks for sharing it.

I feel like the mRNA vaccines were useful for my immediate family— no one who got the virus became seriously ill or required hospitalization and I managed to dodge it despite close contact with all of them. FTR, I tend to feel ghastly for about 36 hours after each booster compared to any of them. I'm not looking forward to the flu/booster combo next month but will take one for the team.

Interesting theory, but I'm skeptical. This is not a new idea to attribute things we don't understand to mindset. In the late nineteenth century, those who succumbed to tuberculosis were thought to have an "artistic temperament." Currently those who have trouble losing weight are blamed as "weak." Those of us who are old enough to remember the late great Susan Sontag will know she wrote about this extensively in her wonderful book Illness as Metaphor. Still worth a read. My own take is that there is still so much we don't know about the immune system.

II will take one for the team also HB, but I'm going to separate flu and covid....just for my own comfort.

I got the flu three years in a row even though I was vaccinated. I got COVID even though I was vaccinated and boosted. As a pediatrician, I am a big believer in immunization to decrease disease. Infants and small children don't have a "mindset" about getting vaccinated, yet the vaccines still work to keep them from coming down with dangerous, sometimes life-threatening diseases. I will get vaccinated, probably next month, when the updated COVID vaccine is available.

my DH and I both have been vaccinated. Besides having dementia he also has COPD. We will get the flu vaccine as we have for years, as well as the next Covid vaccine. We haven’t had any reactions whatsoever, and I don’t know anyone who has. In our very conservative small town, we lost a lot of good, hard working people to Covid who were fearful of the vaccine.
