Hi Abby. No, you should not ask for money here. You need to have control of the situation, not him. If you intend to be his caregiver, you need to talk to an attorney about having durable power of attorney of guardianship for him.

    This is a difficult situation.

Even in the context of dementia, what you are describing is abuse.

This is not a Go Fund Me kind of place. Many folks here are unable to fund the level of their family members deserve much less afford the respite they need to pace themselves for the maraton that is a decade or more of caregiving.

If your fiancé has dementia, he likely no longer has the capacity to contract a legal marriage.

One cannot ask for money or any financial assistance on this site; Admin. would swiftly delete such a Post and if an issue, one can be blocked from being able to use the site at all.

Asking strangers for money is not what is needed in such a situation and is inappropriate; that is a tiny blip for the big issues that need specific and long term management. To continue on the same path in the same way is enabling the behavior and it may only cause it to continue or increase. It may be helpful to obtain counseling for yourself to assist you in gaining insight and clarity for the issues you are facing.

So hope that you reach out for help that can be found to help make things easier or at least clearer to manage.
