Getting rid of stuff

DH still in the clearing out stuff stage. But now he has gotten to the point where he throws stuff away. He threw everything in our freezer in the basement away. Which wasn't much but…

Now he wants me to get rid of blankets and towels. He thinks we have to many. Lol . I'm afraid I'm going to come home and find I have nothing left!. Will this stage last long.

He has VD and Alz.

My husband never threw stuff away. But he would take things apart like the lawnmower trying to fix it. My son had to put it back together. He did the same with a vacuum he was cleaning I had to get it back together myself. The first thing I noticed was he would always put grass trimmer line on our weed eater he couldn't do it anymore. I had to find you tube videos to figure out how to do it. He would always fix everything before the Alzheimer. Now he is too advanced and doesn't do that anymore. The saddest is watching his abilities at the beginning go away

Is he staying home alone? If he's doing things like that he may no longer be able to stay alone. A question the nurse asked my husband was "what would you do if a fire broke out in your home" and my husband said he would try to put out the fire. Not get out. Not call 911. He was already struggling on how to use a phone. I just didn't put those 2 things together. She then told me that he could no longer be left alone. My husband did that for 18 months. He started by giving stuff away to anyone who came to visit. Then he started throwing stuff away. I had to check the trash daily. When he went into Memory Care he threw everything in the trash, pictures we took to him, his glasses, his wallet. Their reasoning ability is gone when they do that. Their "reasoner" is broken. So sad.
