It's time
My husband's progression keeps marching on. His gait has been unsteady and this week he had a bad fall. In the end he had some bad bruising, but thankfully no other injuries. He's had two more falls since. I'm finally accepting that I can't keep him safely at home. I've started the process to place him. I hate this so much. It's breaking my heart.

I am so sorry that you have to place your DH into care. My DH is beginning to forget major events in our lives together. That breaks my heart. I know the day may come when I won't be able to care for him. I cannot imagine the pain that that will bring. Sending you sympathy and prayers.

Jeanne it is heartbreaking, but I’m here to tell you you will survive this. The loss is awful but is inevitable, and placement is itself a loving act. None of us likes to have to ask for help.

I’m battling with the same problems. I don’t know how long I can keep this up but I adore this man after 54 years of marriage. He has been waking at night on the hour from 2am getting out of bed, wandering around then coming back to bed. I’m getting only broken sleep until finally both of us get up at 5.30. I moved to the spare bed at 4am last night, hid the house keys but still only slept lightly with half an ear listening. It’s like having a child again but I feel so sad and now often guilty. He is becoming quite unsteady on his feet and shuffles or creeps around and is suddenly just standing watching. I love him so but hate what is happening to him I’m exhausted.

You will still be his caregiver by making sure he’s well cared for. Remember the reasons. For his safety and for your mental and physical well being. Praying for your strength. 🙏 hugs.

Thank you all. I know you're right. It's the advice I'd give to anyone else. It's not easy. Nothing about dementia is. And it helps so much hearing from you. I
