Selling my Dad's car without the Title in CA

We need to sell my dad's car, now that he is in an AL/ MC facility. I have the POA, but not able to find or access the Title ("Pink Slip" as we call it in CA). Any suggestions on how to do this through the DMV?

just because you can’t find the title doesn’t mean there isn’t one. What state was the car last registered in? Go to the DMV with your POA papers, the VIN number and the latest registration card. Tell them the title was lost. They can issue a duplicate title if they feel you are authorized to receive it.

@"Quilting brings calm" There is a title, (issued in the state of CA, at time of purchase), but it is in a bank safe deposit box, to which I do not have access. DMV is estimating 3-4 mos to issue a duplicate. We want to sell the car in the next few weeks. Hoping that DMV has another, faster way to do this?

why can’t you take the POA and get access to the safety deposit box? Is it a DPOA? Maybe ask the attorney?

To transfer a title, you will need:

Depending on the type of transfer, you might need to complete and submit additional forms. See below for other title transfers and title transfer forms.

Submit your title transfer paperwork and fee (if any) to a DMV office or by mail to:

    DMV
    PO Box 942869
    Sacramento, CA 94269

The box was taken several decades ago, and the titling is quite complicated due to joint ownership with deceased individuals listed on the signature card.

The branch has requested that we bring our legal owner in person, but unfortunately, that isn’t feasible for us at this time. We are eager to explore potential solutions that do not require access to the original title stored in the safety deposit box.
