Mom is in psych hospital after suicide attempt

anybody had their person in a psych hospital ?

How long did they stay , how does the evaluation take place ?

We don’t have much information, Mom was admitted a week ago , after suicide attempt

they don’t seem to do anything apart from monitoring her , and want to meet us in 10 days we are all (kids) at the end of our rope and afraid she will be returned to her assisted living (not even sure if they will accept her back) and restart calling us day and night with wanting to die, agitation, distress ,uncontrollable crying , although she is on medication Risperidone .5mg

Citalopram 10mg and now ventafaxine 35mg . She is still asking to die .

I read here that some PWD are always in that state, until they get to the next stage …

this is getting difficult… for all of us

oh, no… sorry you had to deal with that. Not as familiar with all the protocol as others, but I would think they would not release her until they are sure her attitude about that, changes. They would probably not release her to AL, either, but you (or siblings) could state that you are not able to accommodate her living with you, either. There would have to be other arrangements for her.

    ((hugs))

So sorry your family is dealing with this. If she is still actively talking about suicide, it’s unlikely they’ll discharge her, and the assisted living may not want her back until this is resolved. They can’t discharge her until she has a safe place to go.

i doubt the AL will take her back. When my LO started being difficult, they sent to psych hospital for meds review. Then we had to find an only memory care facility that specialized in more difficult patients. They said it was no longer a good fit. Tho at admission we were ASSURED they could handle all levels needed. Medications were used to try to calm her. Sadly it was the end stage time and before six months out LO passed. It was a hard dark time. I swear I still have PTSD and they passed in 2019.
