Loves to talk to anyone who comes to the door

My DH has a routine list of things he talks about to anyone who will listen - I call it his yard tour. He starts with showing them the driveway, followed by every tree and plant in the front and back of the house. Some of it makes no sense, but most people will listen patiently, at some point probably realizing he has dementia. He performs this routine both to strangers and friends (because he doesn’t remember he showed them before). He’ll stand in the driveway and stop people walking by. Now he does the same to anyone who comes to the door. We’ve had many roofers, tree people, and other contractors trying to drum up business after the hurricanes here in Florida. I try so hard to just take their card and send them on their way but he goes outside and there it starts. I find myself just letting him talk out there by himself, because I’ve heard this so many times and frankly I’m happy to have a few minutes to myself. He has no clue as to what they are selling but just goes on and on. Just not sure if I should follow him out there and help explain. If I try to listen to their pitch he just interrupts and keeps on talking. It makes it uncomfortable for me to have any contractors come in for services also, but at least they’re getting paid for it, lol! Any advice?

As long as you feel he is safe and in no danger, let him talk. My DH did this in the early stages. With him, it was all about his clothing … his hat, the wildlife charity it showed he supported, wild animals he had seen. He is gone now, only three-plus years after diagnosis, and I would give anything to have him back and talking peoples’ ears off.
