Lawrence Welk

Today being Saturday, I had nothing for my DW to watch . So was channel surfing and accidentally I tuned to PBS a channel I don’t normally watch . Lawerence Welk was on and guess what . My DW loved the show  remembering quite a few of the songs and most importantly enjoyed seeing the pretty lady singers all “dolled up “ and smiling … a must on the LW show. I too had a good laugh watching the styles of the 60’s.

The Lennon sisters!!!! I was so jealous of them as a kid in the late 50’s. They were so glamorous!! Such a simpler time.

I had a good smile reading this…bringing back memories of watching the Lawrence Welk show with my family. Glad you happened upon something that brought her some joy.

My mother and her buddy Helen loved that show and watched it together every week. They graduated high school together in 1940 and lived across the street from one another from 1962 forward. DW and I watch it once in a while.

PBS has some pretty good shows. "Nature" has some terrific photography of scenery and wildlife. The other night we saw two male grizzly bears fight over a female. After the fight, the winner found the female wasn't in season so he had fought a grizzly bear for nothing. My whole life has been a lot like that.

I, too, had scanned the channels last night and tuned to LW Show. My husband often passively watches tv with me, but during LW he was talking about the various acts. I was amazaed when out of the blue he said , “I wish I could play the piano like that”. He rarely generates comments anymore.

What a sweet surprise for you and him! I am so glad you had something to smile about since those of us on this journey often times struggle to find smiles!

My wife loved police shows for many years, but now the violence frightens her. She's OK with bears and birds fighting, so nature shows are fine. And no one is afraid of Welk.

DH is also afraid of violence on TV shows; now he won’t even watch any football! It’s getting harder and harder to find something that he will tolerate. He likes ‘antiques roadshow’, I will try some nature as suggested. If anybody has other ideas, please chime in!

Most "modern" shows are too complicated for my DH to follow, even with captions. It's less stressful and more enjoyable to find reruns of variety or comedy shows. I'm thankful this is an activity we can still enjoy together since so many "active" events are no longer attainable.

Folks, don't forget YouTube as a resource. Episodes of favorite old shows can often be found there. Personally, I've enjoyed watching episodes of The Farmer's Daughter and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (ah, Edward Mulhare!).
